Folks,
Based upon whatever I have managed to observe - this could well be a setup - either for internal victories or for some further capitulation to Pakistan. This train was not arbitrarily selected - the revelations on this could be very damaging to the country.
Any thoughts?

Personally, I fear they are going to try setting up Hindus for this - probably Hindu organisations or the BJP.
As Mudy noted in an earlier post (#31), Laloo's Railway dude was quick to make up the rudimentary fib (as foundation to an intended massive lie) about 2 men 'on their way to Gujarat'. Unfortunately for the liars, they made a significant logical mistake as pointed out by Mudy.
So this could merely be another Malegaon - though, there the blame on Hindus didn't stick. Hence Congress and/or their helpers in Pakistan who want Congress to continue lording it over India (who are set to give Kashmir to them for free) try this. Cover story headlines: "Hindus did not want peace between India and Pakistan". (Not for want of trying, but islamic Terroristan has never stopped in its trademark terrorism. But there's a chasm of difference between not wanting fake friendship/peace and blowing up people.)
Or "Hindus sabotaged Indo-Pak friendship. They obviously can't rule themselves (which is why they were colonised)."
This could help the pseculars and communist congress create an image of 'Hindu militancy. Hindu terrorist cells.'
Besides, Terroristan doesn't like its image and reputation as the land that birthed a million terrorist syndicates.
Or, it could merely be Pakistan doing all the terrorism in this event by itself, just to show their boss (the US) that they too are victims of some 'external' terrorism. Since every country in the world has by now turned to frown over the terrorism emanating from TSP.
Meanwhile LeT or SIMI or ISI's other footsoldiers are laughing all the way to the bank.
My guess,
It is SIMI + JUI (Paki) + Deoband doing. Telling congress to stay on path by ignoring Islamist activity as they are doing and keep doing good work by suppressing Hindus and Pakijihadi to keep supporting them. It is Jihad!!
I still think this is to get a better negotiating position on the table with what Husky mentions here..
QUOTEOr, it could merely be Pakistan doing all the terrorism in this event by itself, just to show their boss (the US) that they too are victims of some 'external' terrorism.
There are no doubt the SIMI chamchas etc but the target is very specific and the idiotic responses from 'leaders' only too predictable. The 'hindu terrorist' angle will flouted around ofcourse but the selection of target just gives the game away. This is an alternative for the stupid assasination-attempts that musharraf enjoys every few months.
I just hope that MMS in his itch to make whatever mark he can doesnt buy this BS.
There are a few possibilities here:
- free lancers like SIMI or disgruntled Kashmiri group -that want to make a strong point about their pet peeve
- Paki group that is trying to make an internal political point within Pakistan [or Paistani army]
- or group internal to India - some group that wants to make some other group [like the BJP, RSS] look very bad
Musharraf will have a hard time pulling this one - remember, he had to court martial 6 officers who refused to "kill Pakistanis" in Waziristan - if he pulls something like this on his own folks and word gets out - then he will find it difficult to get the support of his corps commanders
Hence, my gut feel that this has been done purely for political purposes - perhaps an Indian internal group [quite possibly with some collaboration with Pakistan]

Subject: Terror Attack on Samjhauta Express
As citizens of India committed strongly committed to peaceful and fruitful relations between India and Pakistan as also unequivocally to lasting justice and peace between all communities within India, our heart goes out to all the victims of the recent terror attack on board the Samjhauta Express. The attack reveals above all, that terror and terrorism has no religion and victims of all communities, Muslim and Hindu, rich and poor can easily become the victims of such an attack. We offer our deepest condolences to all the affected families in this moment of grief.
We unequivocally condemn this attack that is an attempt not only to de-rail peace talks but also to create schisms and rifts between communities. We thank the political leadership of both countries for using sombre and sensitive language at such a time and urge them -- specifically the intelligence and investigative authorities of India-- to go further and rigorously investigate and get to the bottom of such an attack.
Outfits of terror have no religion and should never be equated as such. The language and acts of terror can be perpetrated by fanatic outfits within any and all social, political and religious sections. Similarly victims of terror as today's brutal incident shows, can hail and do hail from all sections. Terror and terrorism can be home grown as well as imported; both equally are not just anti-national, they strike at the fabric of our nation because they create schisms between communities.

For the other things you mention a mass-casualty attack on muslim population would have done. Selection of samjhauta IMHO points out something else.

SUPPORT SYSTEM: The Ministry of External Affairs extended its full support to the victims and their relatives.
Condemning the blasts, Pakistan said that India should bear full responsibility for the safety of Pakistani nationals in the country.
In Islamabad, Foreign Minister Khurshid Kasuri said the blasts were targeting the peace process. âThe timing is very bad. I'll be leaving for Delhi on Tuesday to further the peace process,â Kasuri said.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of External Affairs extended its full support to the victims and their relatives in the hour of crisis.
âIt is a tremendous humanitarian tragedy. So, lets try and succor to those who are injured and to the kin of the dead,â MEA Spokesperson, Navtej Sarna said.
However, former Indian high commissioner to Pakistan, G Parthasarthy, believes that the terror groups that Pakistan has been feeding over the years are perhaps turning against it now.
âWhatever problems of terrorism Pakistan faces is because of its own actions. It plays with fire and it gets its fingers burnt,â Parthasarthy explained.
(So true)
He warned that the infrastructure of terrorism still flourishes in Pakistan with groups such as the Lashkar-e-Toiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad functioning openly with government support.
This may not derail the peace process, he says, but would render the much hyped joint terror mechanism meaningless.
However, many would take comfort from the fact that India and Pakistan are working together on an issue that has divided them bitterly in the past.
Terrorism knows no national boundaries and religion but by working together to provide humanitarian relief and assistance, India and Pakistan are sending another message that terrorism can unite even bitterly divided forces.

What the? Christoislamicommunism is a terrorist ideology. No need to sound PC, other religions can be left out of it.

read/watch if u want to puke.I was trying to watch a bit of it, but I felt queasy when I saw Teesta Seetalwad (sp?). Since I'd never seen her before, I was not prepared for the .... apparition. No lights on in her head at all.
So I glanced over the ibn article at that link instead. (I expected nothing from the invited Pakistani speaker, so not commenting on that.)
Man that teesta is a whiny little thing. Every now and again she interrupts to add her input into the debate: "Why do you say it was islamic terrorism? Why can't it have been Hindu rightwingers? Why are you saying the only terrorists are islamic terrorists? Why are you not mentioning Hindu rightwingers?"
Sound repetitive? Well, read the article and you'll find she's a person of few ideas beyond this. In fact, it is the sum total of her 'arguments'. Only a christomedia like ibn-cnn (the same that crowned MMS as popularity king even though Modi beat him several times over in their poll) could have invited such a character as this Teesta to play.
But to be fair, let's consider her suggestion, however lame it may be. I've shaken out four-hands-worth of questions below. In each case, choose your answer from
(a) islamics (b) 'Hindu rightwingers' (c ) someone else
There is no time limit. Good luck.
(1) Who attacked the World Trade Centre?
(2) Who killed Theo van Gogh and who killed a member of the Dutch parliament?
(3) Lashkar e Taiyba (Let) has vowed to disintegrate India. What are they?
(4) Australia's sheikhs and muftis who have been offending their host country by insulting Australian women and calling Australians criminals and Jews pigs etc belong to which ideological group?
(5) The Pakistani terrorist Lodhi who tried to blow up an Australian electricity grid is part of which ideological group?
(6) Who are the Sunnis blowing up Shias in Iraq?
(7) Who are the Shias blowing up Sunnis in Iraq?
(8) Who are the Taliban?
(9) The people who planned to kidnap the British muslim soldier in order to behead him for broadcast video, belong to what ideological group?
(10) Who was behind the Varanasi, Mumbai, Malegaon and other blasts?
(11) Who were behind the London bombings?
(12) Who were behind the Bali bombings?
(13) Who are the German citizens who murder their own Turkish daughters/sisters in order to stop them from not wearing the veil or being independent or dating German men?
(14) Who trained and is helping the ULFA militants who are killing the Assamese?
(15) Who trained and is helping the maoists who are terrorising the Nepalese?
(16) Who are the members of the terrorist cell 'Hofstadgroep' in the Netherlands?
(17) Who are behind the 2004 Madrid train bombings that left 191 dead and 1824 wounded?
(18) Who are the people recently suiciding themselves (and taking others with them into the afterlife) in Iran?
(19) What ideological group do the militants terrorising the Phillipinos belong to?
(20) Who are the terrorists blowing up Thai buildings and beheading Buddhist monks in the South of Thailand?
.... (The above is a short sample of a very, very long list)
Now Teesta Seetalwaddle of 'communalism combat' (note the Orwellian name) will no doubt like to argue with all these different countries and governments that they must allow for 'Hindu rightwingers' to have caused all of this... But for people whose mental faculties are not as completely dislocated from reality or for those who have read some of the world news flitting by here and there, the answer is already known. And the answer is neither (b) nor (c ), though I hear Teesta got all the answers wrong (much to ibn-cnn's surprise, they had invited her since they thought she might be an expert on whatever).

Actually watching that twerp was interesting for one thing. When confronted with the comment that TSP is playing with fire and having their hands burnt he came up with THAT-WAS-IN-THE-PAST. I havent seen such blatant do-what-you-want-we-are-terrorists-onlee before. And to think that sh1talwad was whining about hindu terrorists was disgusting. She even said how-sober or something.
Couple points:
i) Just last week SC declared SIMI to be a 'sessionist outfit'.
ii) Samjhauta express is supposed to under heavy guard/security throught the journey. For past 5 months this security was suspended because of jurisdictional dispute between Haryana Rly police and Punjab Rly police. Laloo admirers were bit busy covering his lectures at IIM and Harvard visitors and this little security dispute/detail was ignored.
QUOTE⢠There were 757 passengers aboard the train, including 553 Pakistanis, constituting the bulk of the casualties.
⢠According to Indian officials, the dead included 26 men, 14 women, 13 children and 15 bodies charred beyond physical recognition.

One held for India-Pakistan train blastsQUOTEOn the basis of information given by eye-witnesses, one person who was present in one of the two coaches that caught fire has been detained," the Press Trust of India news agency quoted Railways Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav as telling reporters.
I just can't believe this nonsense. It just shows they will never look for real killers.
Whoever behind this, after reading couple of Paki sites, I noticed they are considering this 1947 type of begining. Not good for India.
India should hunt for the killer, whoever are involved.
