Govt to strip Prasar Bharti Board of its powersQUOTEThe government appears set to strip the existing Prasar Bharati Board of its powers, the apex body formed 17 years ago to provide autonomy to the state-run All India Radio and Doordarshan, now mired in corruption and controversies.

The Law ministry has given a go ahead to Information and Broadcasting ministry to take legal recourse to suspend the existing board and put in place a government official in-charge of the board, HT has learnt.

Earlier, also the government had appointed Additional Secretary in the ministry as Chief Executive Officer of the Prasar Bharati during the period new CEOs were being selected.

However, senior I&B ministry officials said the decision on whether an Ordinance or a amendment to the Prasar Bharati Act to dissolve the present board would be taken after October 25, when the global broadcasting union is supposed to clear the plan for Commonwealth Games coverage.

The government’s worry is whether the present Prasar Bharti board would be able to provide world class coverage of the 2010 Commonwealth Games, given its sorry plight is understood to have triggered the drastic move.

The Board, which gets around Rs 1,500 crore (Rs 15 billion) every year from the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, has been virtually defunct since eight months, plagued by severe infighting among its top officials.

This is the result of the western sociology studies on Indian society pre-independence and post-independence and the elite who did not create a Indian point of view. Western trained Indians only know the western point of view and fractal recursitivity is considered normal inside India.

The Indian news reports are really news reports for the western elite informing them about India. It is not for Indians to understand the rest of the world.

Title : The trouble with Third World leftists

Author : Gautam Sen

Publication : The Indian Express

Date : March 12, 1997

The failure of Third World elites to understand the West is partly

due to what can be described as sample bias, although private

career interests are important as well. Their exposure to the West

is primarily through its universities which are relatively liberal

though largely powerless. And exposure to the Left in countries

like the UK is especially consequential because, while their

radical views have little impact on their own societies, they

successfully brainwash Third World elites who wield power at home.

Academics like Maurice Dobb and Harold Laski who decisively

perverted the world-view of a whole generation of Indians were

cranks, irrelevant to the governing elites of Britain. But even

now Indians recall these names with misguided awe.

The principal damage inflicted by such Western duplicity is to

encourage Third World intellectuals to oppose their domestic ruling

order implacably, in the name of the class struggle, even if it

fatally undermines the state apparatus. The dire necessity of a

strong state, domestic social cohesion and military prowess are

thus opposed by this strata of Third World society.

The other lamentable deficiency in their education is the obsession

with the idea of progress. The consequence is the belief that the

world is gradually becoming a better place and Western societies

and their politicians today are better than their ruthless

predecessors. There is no evidence for sustaining this conviction,

but it aids old-fashioned re-conquest of the Third World.

The Left in the UK is completely united with its government in the

murderous project in Iraq. One Israeli diplomat has remarked that

Saddam Hussein was always his country's preferred choice because he

was the only politician capable of preventing Iraq from allying

with either Syria and/or Iran - "he represents equilibrium", he

asserted. According to him, the US and its allies had always

supported Saddam and it was only his nuclear ambitions that

prompted intervention.

The allure of international seminars as well as the fear of

traditional bases of Third World protest, inevitably religious,

reinforces the covert and, increasingly, public support of Third

World Leftists for Western imperialism. The backing of the

international Left and its Third World allies for the mass murder

taking place in Algeria is a case in point. India's secular Left

wing defenders of Islam quickly adopt the militant anti-Islamic

rhetoric of their Western sponsors as soon as they land at the

airport!

Given the enduring influence of colonial education, only prolonged

and deep estrangement from the dominant Western intellectual

perspective allows one to see things differently. China's elites,

unlike India's, are relatively immune, because they do not

understand English and cannot therefore absorb this virus as a

matter of course.

It is noteworthy that the two societies which gave authentic

verdict to significant recent events are theocracies that value

their intellectual autonomy. Iran was perturbed by the destruction

of Iraq during the Gulf War despite Iraq's bloody aggression

against it earlier. And Israel lodged the solitary protest against

the mass murder of Bosnia's Muslims. The ignorant and sycophantic

Indians sent a parliamentary delegation to Belgrade to commiserate

with Slobodan Milosevic, the architect of genocide in Bosnia.

A momentous military and economic re-conquest is therefore

occurring without the necessary response on a war-footing from the

elites of countries like India. Western powers are penetrating and

occupying the Third World through investment and trade, helped

powerfully by the control of international credit and treaties like

the World Trade Organisation as well as the transmission of ideas

and sources of individual reward. The military dimension of this

policy has already been demonstrated in Iraq, with terrible

consequences for its civilian population. India, Iran and North

Korea are now in the firing line.

By Joe Leahy in Mumbai

Quote:Time Warner said on Thursday that next year would be critical in the war for supremacy in India’s prime time pay television market, as the country becomes a battleground for the largest US media groups.

Time Warner, which formally announced a $126.5m deal to take over Hindi general entertainment channel NDTV Imagine, expects the deal to boost its India revenue by 40 per cent as it takes on the market leaders, Viacom’s joint venture, Colours, and News Corp’s Star.

“With the fight for the nights that we’ve seen for the past year or two, the kind of hegemony that Star used to enjoy in the past decade is long gone,” said Sameer Nair, chief executive officer of NDTV Imagine, which broadcasts reality TV shows and soaps. “It’s an open battle and I think 2010 is going to be quite a defining year for everyone.”

India’s foreign ownership regime in the broadcast media sector is liberal compared with rivals such as China, making it an ideal target for US broadcasters seeking to tap Asia’s growth.

The second-largest pay-TV market in the world by subscribers after China, India has become the most important country for News Corp’s Asian regional business. It is also the biggest revenue earner for Turner, the Time Warner division which operates channels such as Cartoon Network, Warner Brothers and Pogo in India as well as CNN under a franchise agreement. The India operations generate 25 per cent of Turner’s Asia-Pacific revenues, a figure that is expected to rise to 35 per cent once NDTV Imagine’s sales are incorporated.

But India’s television market, particularly the general entertainment genre, is highly competitive following the launch of a swathe of channels over the past two to three years.

Turner’s initial foray into Indian general entertainment with Real, a joint venture with local company Miditech, has failed to get off the ground in terms of ratings, leading the two companies to “reassess” their partnership.

The partners are in negotiations on Real’s future that are expected to be completed by the first half of next year, Steve Marcopoto, president, Turner Broadcasting System Asia-Pacific said on Thursday.

Under the deal with NDTV, Turner will invest $50m into NDTV Imagine, which will continue to be run by Mr Nair.

The channel is ranked about fifth by television ratings – behind the top three, Colours, Star and local channel Zee – and is losing about $10m-$15m a quarter, according to analyst estimates.

“The question is: if you’re not in the top three, are you anywhere?” said Vivek Couto, executive director at Media Partners Asia. “Yes you can hold the fourth and fifth spots, but can you make money?”

Interesting to see the Xtian controlled media openly attacking one of the most important symbols of Hindu marriage in the South (i.e the tALi).

Don't hold your breath about them having a program exploring whether the burqa/hijab really needs to be worn by Muslim women or whether the cross worn by Xtians means anything except superstition.

Quote:Chief Justice of India (CJI) K G Balakrishnan on Sunday said there was an urgent need to ban websites that circulate pornography and hate speeches and emphasized the need for cyber law enforcement.

"The government can place bans on websites that exclusively circulate pornography and hate speeches. However, it would not be right to place a blanket ban on all categories of websites. It is also important to distinguish between intermediaries such as Network Service Providers, website operators and individual users for the purpose of placing liability for wrongful acts," the chief justice said.

"Websites are created and updated for many useful purposes, but they can also be used to circulate offensive content such as pornography, hate speech and defamatory materials. In many cases, the intellectual property rights of authors and artists are violated through the unauthorized circulation of their works.

Christianism's ongoing oh-so-subtle sponsorship of islamism. A bit christoBrit, what?

The international christo media pioneered the use of "dissidents", "protestors", "(ethnic) minorities", "separatists", "militants" and "terrorists" in a calculated manner when it's determined to bring down a country (e.g. Russia, Yugoslavia - actually the list is longer). The slaves in India's christomedia learnt this cheap trick from their betters (their christowestern masters), but India's christos/christoconditioned make good brainless parrots. Not that that was a compliment.

The quality of journalism (sic) in India has never been great - courtesy the omni-presence of Communist fellow travellers and Nehru dynasty sycophants -

and has degenerated into tabloid trash over the last decade. But, the article above is approaching downright pornography of the Wendy Doniger / MF Hussain variety.

Notice how the rag matter of factly denigrates the entire Hindu religion with references to

a "Phallus".

Regarding the individual in question and his alleged actions - I'm entirely neutral. It is entirely possible that he is guilty of the misdemeanors he is being accused of. It is also possible that he is a victim of a malicious

defamation campaign by Dravidian Christists.

The Tamil TV channel that is

playing up the whole affair is owned by scions of the Dravidian neanderthal party.

With a witch hunt by the Indian tabloid media in progress, "innocent until proven guilty" simply does not apply! In India, this does not apply to Hindus anyway...

My primary objection, though is the de-humanization and ridicule of Hindu religion by sexually obsessed brown Michael Witzels and Wendy Donigers running rampant with their lacerous pornography.

Supine acquiescence by Hindus

is what confers acceptability and legitimacy to the hate speech of

the christist media.

P.S: One of the article's authors has the last name - Nandy, which incidentally is a Serampore christist (Bengali) name.

Contrast this tabloid's atrocious

attitude with the apology tendered by another newspaper in the same state (Karnataka) when confronted by rioting adherents of the "religion of Peace" in protest against a

fact based article by Taslima Nasrin.

Would these "Phallus" journalists have dared to similarly denigrate an article of faith in Islam?

The price for not exposing cryptochristianism when heathens still have the chance is much graver than one can imagine existing in our current time, as we do. As is the price of silence when Hindus should be vocally refuting the christoterrorist allegations made about their Gods and the way the Hindus perceive, understand and relate to their Gods. Because silence is taken for acquiescence, and then the christoarchive will record that the silent Hindus in the 20th/21st century "acquiesced" to the christianism's description that Shiva Lingam meant "phallus" to Hindus and that that is what they worshipped. When of course it is only christolying again - like the christolies about jeebus having ever existed, when he never did.

La seule réponse - à ce moment:

Quote:Harish said...

exactly karyakarta.. this entire "phallus" thingie has moved from the realms of some arcane description to main stream media potrayal of our holiest of gods(Lord Shiva)..(the fact that they are not even related.. is irrelevant)..

(I agree with the rest of it, but just lodging this disagreement for the record -

"holiest of gods": We're not monopolytheists. Shiva is not the "sole" holiest of Hindu Gods. Where a limit to holy-ness has been demarcated - as the superlative "holiest" implies - and with Shiva defined at that limit, then by definition the Hindu Gods are all the very extreme of sanctity and auspiciousness. E.g. Agni, being a prime purifier, is Holy in his very essence. And "Sarva Mangala Mangalyam/Mangalye" is said of Surya and Lakshmi. <- For instance. So: etc. etc.)

also the use of the word "minions"..

the temerity with which people in general play with Hindu sentiments is astounding..

btw.. this entire episode totally reeks of pre-planned conspiracy (dravidian ishtlye)...remember when jayendra saraswathi was humiliated and denigrated in the name of some "murder charges".. which later turned out to be completely false..

(What happened to the Kanchi acharya was christoterrorist conspiracy: the christian inquisition of the heathen. Plus DMK is also cryptochristian - some day this will come out. So the conspiracy was christian all round.)

swami nithyananda has been in the forefront of reviving vedic traditions(even instates like TN ) and has been against Xtian conversion.. not to mention that he is from "low caste" and has been attracting followers by the thousands...

(While I don't know any specifics, I wouldn't be remotely surprised if Nityananda is innocent. Because when christianism is active at its loudest or most violent against a Hindu Swami or other such Hindu Hero, that's when you know a full heathen is in all likelihood involved: the unacceptable sort of inconvertible, i.e. the kind who generates more incovertibles/the kind that creates immunity to christianism.

Christianism specifically identifies such heroic Hindus who resist and who are inoculating the Hindu population with their anti-bodies to christianism. Having identified these Key Hindu Individuals, christianism then terrorises them with a special brand of Extreme Christoterrorism. And so it christoterrorises them either to death - like it did to that sweetheart Swami Lakshmanananda - or with torture, intimidation and character-assassination like Kanchi Shankaracharya, or with character-assassination, torture AND (probable) silent death like the unforgettable framed-but-innocent Dara Singh.)

so how to stop this hindu juggernaut.. manufacture some "scandal".. some riots etc..play the clip a thousand time on some TV channel and ensure that hindus lose faith in everything that is theirs... the dravidian parties have perfected this defamation campaign to the last T....

(It's christianism. Hindus MUST learn to identify cryptochristianism.)

but may be this time around they might be playing around with some one different.....

nobody in this country seems to listen to other than acts of love and peace...

2. A few days back, Reuters I think (there's a smaller chance that it may have been BeeBeeCee "News") had an entry on how Hindus could well soon erupt (i.e. presumably 'genocide') islamaniacs after said innocent islamaniacs had (unstated, but implied 'understandably') murdered a couple of random Karnatakans and vandalised Hindu stores in 'protest'/retaliation of the eviLL irreligious, non-Hindu Taslima Nasreen - who should NOT be Free To Speak, *obviously*. (If she had been stomping on the religion of the Hindus, then By All Means, Speak Dear Taslima. But don't dare to criticise christoislamania. That's the real definition of Freedom Of Speech, it's how it works in practice.)

Note how the news agency still made the Hindus the villains even though the only facts their very own news story had to relate were how solely the islamaniacs were the terrorists, and even though Hindus hadn't done anything at all (and if they were to in future, the islamic culprits would deserve losing two of their own for having already massacred two - presumably, because usually - Hindus. E.g. Bush visits India -> Hindus killed by "protesting" islamaniacs).

That's typically christo news: it's always anti-heathen even when the very victims of the verifiable news it is reporting on are heathens. It is always on the side of the perpetrators, on the side of the heathen-killers.

Arms race on high seas: Armed pirate attacks soar

[Image: ra966372140.jpg?x=400&y=271&q=85&sig=iSb...JGYlTThA--]

NAIROBI, Kenya – Somali pirates hit a Spanish fishing boat off the coast of Kenya with a rocket-propelled grenade Thursday as private security on board returned fire at the would-be hijackers.

The successful defense of the fishing vessel Albacan illustrates two trends driving up the stakes for sailors and pirates off the Horn of Africa: Better trained and protected crews are increasingly able to repel attacks, but pirates eager for multimillion-dollar ransoms are now resorting to violence much more often to capture ships.

Two-thirds of attacks by Somali pirates are being repelled by crews alone, without the aid of the coalition warships that patrol the Gulf of Aden, according to an analysis by The Associated Press of attacks reported to the London-based International Maritime Bureau.

Most did so without the use of armed guards, although private security contractors helped repel pirates in at least five incidents off the Somali coast last year.

As it gets harder for pirates to capture ships, the Somali gangs are more likely to fire at sailors with automatic weapons to make ships stop. The bureau says only seven ships were fired on worldwide in 2004 but that 114 ships were fired on last year off the Somali coast alone. That's up from 39 incidents off Somalia and in the Gulf of Aden in 2008.

Most crews now post extra lookouts, register with maritime authorities and practice anti-piracy drills, said Cyrus Mody of the IMB. Increasing speed and maneuvering so a ship produces more wake or heads into rough waves can also make it more difficult for pirates.

The International Maritime Bureau does not recommend using armed guards due to potential legal problems and fears of starting an arms race with the pirates or increasing the danger to sailors. Moody told AP in October 2008 that armed guards on ships may encourage pirates to use their weapons more — a prediction that appears to have become reality.

None of the 33 crew members or three guards was hurt in Thursday's incident, the ship owners association Cepesca said in a statement from Spain. None of the pirates was believed to be hurt either. But maritime officials expect more gunfire attacks to happen this spring as calmer seas will likely bring a spike in attacks.

Many ship owners are investing in physical defenses like stringing razor wire and adding fire hoses that can hit attackers with streams of high-pressure water. Some ships are even having electric fence-style systems installed.

Secure Marine has installed 45 electric fence-style systems around ships. It also has new devices that can create a type of waterfall around a ship to flood pirate skiffs that get close. The water can be heated "so the higher the pirates climb, the hotter it gets," said company chief Raphael Kahn.

Skin irritants or dye can also be added that help coalition forces identify attackers for possible arrest, he said.

Some ships have been forced to rely on sailors' ingenuity. Crews have thrown everything from oil drums to wooden planks at would-be hijackers clambering up ladders. Last month a crew played the sound of dogs barking over an amplifier to frighten off attackers.

Dogs are considered unclean in Islam and few Somalis keep them as pets. Shipping industry officials are discussing putting guard dogs on high-risk vessels to help frighten off pirates, Mody said. Most hijackings are opportunistic and pirates who encounter resistance often give up and chase an easier target.

"If you're being chased by a lion, you don't have to be faster than the lion," said Graeme Gibbon Brooks of Dryad Maritime Intelligence. "You just have to be faster than the person next to you."

Better training and preparations mean that although 2009 saw 217 Somali pirate attacks — the highest number on record — most were unsuccessful. Forty-seven ships were taken, about the same as in 2008, which saw 111 attacks, according to the International Maritime Bureau.

The attacks are becoming more dangerous for crew members, though. More than 20 ships were fired on with rocket-propelled grenades last year, including tankers and chemical tankers. In one incident, two grenades lodged in the door of a ship's bridge — the area where the captain steers from. Many other ships were damaged by small-arms fire, according to reports from IMB.

"In the old days (pirates) just used to show up and wave a rusty rifle. Now people aren't so easily frightened," said Gibbon Brooks.

Four sailors died and ten were injured off Somalia in 2009. Two were killed during rescue attempts — one by Yemeni forces and one by the French — and another died in captivity. The fourth was killed by a bullet during the attack.

"Pirates are shooting because they want the captain to stop and the crew to keep their heads down," said Mody. "Crews are not being executed ... (but) attacks are becoming more violent, there's no doubt about that. It's inevitably going to result in casualties or environmental damage."

The financial stakes are rising as well, said piracy expert Roger Middleton of the British thinktank Chatham House.

Last year, the average ransom was around $2 million, giving the pirates a total haul of around $100 million for 2009. This year, two ransoms paid were around $3 million and $7 million, he said, citing industry officials.

"There's a commercial calculation as well as a humanitarian one," he said. "It's cheaper to pay a bit more a bit more quickly than a bit less over a longer period of time, because of associated costs like compensation to the sailors, lost work time, and possibly a loss in the value of the cargo."

Turkey Threatens Washington over Genocide Recognition...

ANKARA, MARCH 4 - Ankara threatened to cancel defense contracts totaling $45 billion with American companies if today the Foreign Affairs Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives will pass a critical resolution for the recognition of Armenian genocide claims.

Daily Vatan describes the Turkish warning as "economic ultimatum" adding that Vatan reports that the CEOs of five US companies sent a letter to US congressmen to highlight the hazards of the genocide resolution. They stressed that the approval of the resolution would jeopardize exports totaling $10 billion.

Vatan says that despite the warnings, the Foreign Affairs Committee was expected to approve the controversial resolution.

Vatan gives details about the companies campaigning in support of Turkey. Boeing: THY has ordered 35 passenger planes. In the next 20 years, THY plans to make deals with Boeing worth $21 billion. Raytheon: The company holds talks with Turkish officials for the establishment of missile defense systems to Turkey. The US government has announced that Turkey could buy equipment worth $7.8 billion. Northrop Grumman: Turkey gives $11 billion support to the Joint Strike Fighter project. Lockheed Martin: Turkey has signed $2.9 billion deal for the purchase of 50 F-16 jets. The company also carries out a modernization project in the Turkish Air Forces worth $635 million. United Technologies: Sikorsky is one of the most powerful candidates for meeting the needs of the Turkish army for 109 helicopters. If the company makes a deal with Ankara, the helicopters will be produced in Turkey.

Vatan says that despite the warnings, the Foreign Affairs Committee was expected to approve the controversial resolution. Yesterday, as Vatan reported, Turkish President Abdullah Gul phoned US President Barack Obama to reiterate Turkish concerns about the genocide resolution to be discussed today at the Foreign Affairs Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives. According to the daily, Gul asked the US administration to step in and block the resolution. Gul warned that the approval of the resolution would harm the normalization process initiated between Turkey and Armenia and that strategic partnership between Turkey and the US would suffer a heavy blow.
