It is very difficult to exactly pinpoint the sequence of events. One must remember that a certain amount of smuggling do take place along the sea route. Apart from the scenario that has been drawn up in the previous article, it is also possible that the Indian trawler had been engaged to perform some smuggling activity and the terrorists boarded the vessel disguised as smugglers.
Both these theories may be well off the mark. It is no point in speculating on an issue which cannot be proved or disproved to a certain degree of certainty. It is a well know fact that certain elements across the border have helped in planning and executing the entire operation. The present day happenings in Pakistan indicate that the Government is not fully in control of what is happening in the country. So in such a situation anything is possible. Let us hope that better sense will now prevail upon the decision makers of Pakistan and their action may restore the control of the State over various dangerous elements in that country.
We in India should not rely on what steps are taken by our neighbour but should take all steps to tighten the security of our country, particularly against the threat from the sea. This has remained somewhat on the low key in the past, but I am sure we will soon make up.
