India suspends cross-LoC trade
NEW DELHI : India has reportedly suspended the much hyped cross-Line of Control (LoC) trade in Indian-held Kashmir (IHK) in the wake of the Mumbai terrorist strikes. A local news agency reported that the Indian Army on Tuesday refused to open the gates at Chakan da Bagh on Poonch-Rawakalot road in IHK. Trucks laden with goods were turned back from the LoC. The district administration said they had been given no prior information that trucks would not be allowed to cross the LoC. âThe army officers told us that they have been asked not to allow any trade until further orders,â an IHK government official said. Indian army sources said the denial of permission for trade on Tuesday was not linked to the terror attacks in Mumbai. They said the gates remained shut because the local unit of the army had not received any instructions. iftikhar gilani
