Olives and derivatives of olives (like oil etc) are actually good for the body, and also provide great opportunities for export. Our food habits wouldn't change one bit, instead it would be incorporated into our cooking just like tomatoes and potatoes were. Olive trees can survive in austere conditions, the Israelis have been planting them in their deserts.
