There is an important point that we have missed i.e. Number of the poor in the country has increased to 73.6 per cent of the total population from 33.6 per cent during the last eight years on the basis of two dollars per day purchasing power
Since the Pakistani Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has based it on âPurchasing Powerâ it means that the Two US Dollars referred to are on âPurchasing-Power-Parityâ Basis.
Please check the following from the I M F :
Pakistan : 2008 - Implied PPP conversion rate - National currency per current international dollar : 19.793
Does this mean that the Pakistani Poverty Rate is based on a Figure of Pakistan Rupees 39.526 which at US Dollar 1 = Pak Rs. 63 Equates to about US Cents 63 (US Cents Sixty Three) Daily?
Many thanks in advance.
