Congress looses majority in Gandhinagar panchayat
The opposition Congress in Gujarat suffered a major setback today as four of its member of the Gandhinagar district panchayat announced their decision to join BJP leaving the ruling party in a minority. <b>The move came as a severe blow to Union Textiles Minister Shankersinh Vaghela as the panchayat is headed by his son Mahendrasinh Vaghela.</b>
Vaghela maintained that there would not be any problem and his team would complete five years. He said that they would go for confidence motion and till then they are keeing their fingers crossed. Of the total 25 members 15 were of Congress and 10 of BJP. With four switching sides the Congress strength has reduced to 11.
The four who left Congress include vice president Kunwarben Chaudhary, chairman of education committee Jashu Patel, chairman of agriculture committee Pravin Tahkore and Lalit Thakore-a member.
