Uttar Pradesh desperately needs good governance to catch up with other fast developing states.
Whether arrival of Mayawati improves upon governance in the state, only time will tell. However, past pattern shows that Mayawati belongs to the same league of one person (autocratic) rulers such as Jayalalitha, Laloo Yadav, Mulayam Yadav.
Also her past dubious record on Taj corruption case, Kanshi Ram death controversy and her liberal use of colorful & not so diplomatic words do not inspire confidence.
She can make UP worse by her ruthless and insensitive rule. Being a single woman and suffering from victimisation syndrome (Dalit back ground) could mean trouble for her opponents. She could paralyse the state machinery to get back at her opponents.
Utar Pradesh belongs to Bimaru group of states with dismal performance on almost all social and economic indices. UP's showcase Noida belonging to NCR is the only city which showed some promise in the rising IT/ITES sector. However, Nithari killings and frequent cases of kidnappings (Adobe India Chief's son) have made the place unattractive for entrepreneurs even though it has somewhat better infrastructre than Gurgaon.
