Hyderabad, June 13: <b>Not willing to take any chances Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy has decided to seek divine help for good rains in the State. He has directed the endowments department to organise Varuna Japams and Sahasra Ghatabhisekhams in all the 21 major temples to invoke Lord Varuna</b>.
<b>The places where these rituals will take place include Srisailam, Lakshmi Narasimha swamy temple, Yadagirigutta, Durga Malleshwara Devasthanam, Dwaraka, Tirumala, Simhachallam and Srikalahasti. The department consulted Sri Malladi Chandrasekhara Sastry, a renowned Pouranika Sarva Bhowma and astrologer who had suggested a series of rituals from Jyesthamasam to the end of Sravanamasam (June 19 to August 23).</b>
<b>According to sources in the endowment department Sri Malladi Chandrasekhara Sastry advised Varuna Japam for nine days. During this ritual the priest performs the puja standing in water. Sahasra Ghatabhisekham in all Shivalayams each Monday till the end of Sravanamasam was also suggested. The department was told that daily preaching of Virata Parvam and Rushya Srunga Charitam from Ramayana in every temple would be of great benefit. </b>
Endowments commissioner has directed regional joint commissioners, deputy commissioners and executive officers of all the 21 major temples to take personal interest in the matter.
