Election promise by DMK
QUOTE'We will provide quality rice at Rs two per kg to make women feel happy at heart, and provide a free colour TV to every family for women's recreation and general knowledge,' said the manifesto released by DMK president M Karunanidhi.
Â
Women have much to cheer about, if the DMK regains power in the May 8 election. The manifesto promises a free gas stove to all poor women and a monthly maternity assistance of Rs 1,000 three months prior to delivery and three months after that.
The manifesto also promised a legislation to provide separate reservation for Muslims and Christians after getting the Centre to amend the Constitution to allow such quotas. Further, it would extend concessions enjoyed by Dalits (currently confined to Hindus) to those in other religions, too.
The DMK said it would not implement Value Added Tax without properly examining the implications,
Unemployed youth would get an assistance of Rs 300 a month under a future DMK regime while women members of self-help groups would get Rs 45 a day as training allowance
On the policy front, the DMK said it would continue to strive for the scrapping of Article 356 of the Constitution and for suitable constitutional amendments to provide for State autonomy, besides pressing the Centre to allocate 40 per cent of the Centre's gross tax revenues to the States.

Do they think women are real stupid? I am not sure whether voters really buy these gimmicks?
Election commision should put a check on these promise.
