Leaders continued to exhort Iraqis to calm down and keep the peace, but deaths have mounted across the country despite a bolstered security force on the streets.
Violence has escalated since an explosion last week heavily damaged a revered Shiite shrine and further frayed relations between Shiite and Sunni Arabs.
In all, seven attacks Tuesday in Baghdad claimed the lives of at least 55 people and wounded 173.
