Location&Direction:This temple is located just 10 kms away from Thanjavur city center on the banks of Venn River.

There are 3 temples in and around the river within reach of one km each. Legend says that there were 3 demons - Thanjakan,Gajamugan,Dhandakasuran who worshipped Lord shiva and tried to get immortal boon .But Lord shiva assured them of not having death from him. These 3 demons went on torturing the whole world.When they were torturing Saint parasurar, Lord visnhu used Sakrayutha to kill Thanjakan-hence the name thanjakanur later became Thanjavur. Gajamugan took the form of Elephant and Lord vishnu took Narasimha avatar and killed him-hence the name Thanjai-Yaali. Lord Vishnu took Varaha avatar to kill Dhandakasuran.-That's SriMushnam.
On the banks of Venn River following temples are situated between one kms each.

In Mahabharatha, Keesakan Who was problematic to Draupathi was killed by Bheema in this place. Reffering to killing ("konra-Idam") , this place later became Kundadam. Kundadam- Kalabhairava Vaduganathar is considered very sacred as equal to Kasi-Kalabhairavar.
Another Interesting fact is (which also refers to kundadam) when the Pandavas were in exile into the forests, they ventured out into the country in disguise. They were travelling near the place called Dharapuram, and one of the Dhuryodhana's men identified the Pandavas and went on to inform Dhuryodhana.
The place where the Pandavas is called Kandidam [Kanda (Found) + Idam (Place)], which later got transformed and now called as Kundadam.
